At From the Ashes Gaming
It’s been three months since the Allies have pushed inland from the beaches of Normandy. Each day they gain more ground, but not without ongoing resistance from German retreating forces and reinforcements that continue to be moved towards the region…
Welcome to the Operation Cobra “Big Battle”. Rather than a tournament or one big battle going on throughout, participants will have the opportunity to play in one or more games to determine the outcome. There will be time slots so participants can potentially jump in or out as needed: you can play in one, two, or all games as desired. Each game and table will have a separate mission and objective, each based on events as the Allies moved in lane.
Schedule:
10:45- Arrival and mission 1 debrief
11:00- Round 1 (1000 pts)
1:00- Lunch
1:30- Round 2 (1000 pts)
3:30- Break
3:45- Round 3 (1250 pts)
6:15- Wrap up
List Building:
Unlike most tournament lists, army building will be done using appropriate theater lists only. While the main source of these will be the three DDay books published thus far, contact me if there is another which you believe to be appropriate (sorry, Japanese and Ghurka units will not be included!). Some examples of lists included (from Easy Army) are:
US
1944 Normandy
1944 Operation Cobra
US Airborne Reinforced (Normandy)
Germany
116th Panzer Division Panzer Grenadiers
12th SS Grenadiers
British
Canadian Infantry Division
LW Commando Troop
Partisans??????
In addition, armoured events took place in the area in 1944 and as such Armoured Divisions can be used as well (with the normal Tank War/ armoured obligations [infantry must have a transport, command vehicle, etc]. Likewise while it may be tempting to take armor, only infantry can hold objectives for each (vehicles may contest).
If you are participating in multiple events, you can use the same list for or bring separate lists for each (on opposite sides if you’d like although your ‘teammates’ may not like you after!!!).
OTHER INFO
-Models need to be as close to WYISWYG as possible. For example, if you do not have a pintle mounted MG on a Tiger, that’s fine. A Panzer III as a Tiger is not.
-Printed models are fine as long as appropriate.
-Army Wide Rules will be used for all armies. However please note that some theater lists remove or replace certain army wide rules with more unique rules. Please check this before the day of.
-Models do not need to be painted, but must be fully built. (No bases as proxies).
